Leadership is a major theme that has been questioned or challenged as a philosophy or theory by intellectuals around the world from ancient times to the present day, and continues to be studied and practiced.
In this Keyword Commentary, I will try to explain the “essence” of this theme in four elements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you were asked, “In one word, what is leadership?” What would you say?\u3000Of course, there are many ways to answer this question. The Coaching Information Bureau’s answer is “influence,” focusing on the “one word” that is the subject matter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From here, we will break it down into four elements in a three-tiered tree structure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What do we use to exert influence? That is “communication”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Many people may think of communication as the exchange of words, but communication is an extremely broad concept, defined as the transmission of perceptions, feelings, and thoughts between people who live in society, mediated by language, writing, and other visual and auditory media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This communication is then divided into “subject” and “content”. In the leadership aspect, the subject is the human being. On the other hand, the content is, in layman’s terms, the content. As the saying goes, “Everything is a question of content,” and this is an important element.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the third layer, the “subject” is the element of “human trust” and “competence trust,” while the “content” is “emotion” and “logic”.
Looking at it from this bird’s-eye view, we can understand the essence of leadership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Through communication, the four elements of human trust, competence, emotion, and logic are combined to exert influence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Because it is a combination, there are many different leadership styles, depending on the strength of each element\u2026positive or negative.
