Today, it has become a key word that symbolically captures the entire society, including the economy.<br>What it means is\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The world has entered an era of great change, with a new dimension of instability, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity. Therefore, how we perceive and predict the future requires flexible thinking that differs from the past.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The keyword that is attracting attention in this era of VUCA is &#8220;resilience,&#8221; which I will introduce here.<br>Resilience, in the narrow sense of the word, means &#8220;elasticity&#8221;. Originally an expression used in physics and other fields, it has come to be used to describe positive psychological tendencies and corporate structures as &#8220;restorative power&#8221;.<br>In Japan, the word is now written in katakana as it is in English, and many people are talking about it more and more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many people may associate the word &#8220;resilience&#8221; with the proverbs &#8220;willow trees never break under the weight of snow&#8221; and &#8220;softness conquers hardness&#8221;. It means &#8220;softness makes one supple and strong&#8221;. Even before the concept of resilience was reaffirmed, I feel that it was a concept that was naturally accepted in Japan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, I understand that the reason why resilience is attracting so much attention is because of today&#8217;s unpredictable future.<br>In an age when the future is predictable and feelable, people and society can move forward toward &#8220;what needs to be done&#8221; without much anxiety. Today, however, we are in the VUCA era.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I feel that the reason why coaching is spreading today is strongly related to the growing awareness of VUCA.
