It is the client himself/herself who finds and sets the theme. However, it is important for the coach to understand not only the client’s words, but also what lies behind those words, the essence of which the client is unaware.
The coach mobilizes all five senses to understand the client’s inner world. If he/she senses any discomfort, he/she confirms it with questioning and feedback skills.

What are the underlying factors that cause the client to repeat?

In considering the underlying factors, there is the concept of causal theory (feelings and behaviors are produced from past causes) proposed by psychologists Freud and Jung, and the concept of objectivism (all feelings and behaviors are produced to achieve a certain goal) proposed by Adler. In coaching, we basically follow the theory of purpose. The idea is that future purpose defines the present.

For example, suppose someone is unable to tidy up. In causal theory, we believe that there is a cause for the inability to tidy up, but in objective theory, we believe that there is a purpose for the continued inability to tidy up. We focus on the client’s own initiative and sense of ownership.

It approaches the client’s values and true purpose!

There is always a purpose behind the theme of what the client really wants and what they really want to achieve. Many of these objectives are rooted in the client’s values. Values are ideas of what is valuable, a basic way of looking at things when judging value, and a standard by which things are evaluated and judged.

A professional coach is able to determine what the client is really looking for, what the true theme is, and what the nature of the problem is that the client is unaware of.
