A credential is an endorsement that the person obtaining the credential has mastered “certain professional skills. The same is true for a coaching certification. In other words, to obtain a certification, one must have acquired the skill of coaching, which is a technical skill.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, the base of coaching is dialogue, an act that everyone uses as a matter of course, and there are not so many technical terms in the names of individual skills that one would be prepared to “figure out\u2026” the moment one sees them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Paradoxically, this makes it difficult to convey the professionalism of coaching as a qualification.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The system of skills consists of the following six major words, which, with the exception of reframing, are frequently used in everyday life. However, as you learn each skill in coaching, you will learn the “depth” of each skill.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Through learning at a coaching school, you will experience and realize that coaching is a qualification that “requires true professionalism”. If the school does not give you a real feeling, it is likely that the company or organization offering the course is “unprofessional”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Coaching Skills – The System as a Bigger Picture<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Approval skills<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is to accept, acknowledge, and take an interest in the other person as he\/she is in order to make him\/her feel at ease to speak. It is not about evaluation or comparison with others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Listening skills<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is the most important and fundamental skill in coaching. The goal is to listen for the other person, to focus on what the other person is saying, and to hear what is in their heart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Questioning skills<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As an extension of “approving” and “listening,” the goal is to elicit what is inside the other person. It is a skill that consists of various types of clarification of ambiguous things inside the other person.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The “feedback” skills<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This skill is to tell the other person what you feel, what you see, and what you hear as it is. Together with the “Questioning” skill, it encourages the other person to become aware of what is happening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Request skills<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is an approach to increase the other person’s point of view and overcome psychological barriers. It is a skill that drives the achievement of goals and promotes rapid growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reframing skills<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is to encourage people to remove frameworks (frames – common sense, what they perceive as normal, etc.) that seem to be socially binding and to see things in a different framework. New perspectives are brought forth.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
