Since the session itself has not yet begun, the client is naturally nervous and expectant at the same time.<br>The setup is also an orientation for the client to &#8220;adapt and adjust&#8221; to the new environment and way of thinking. Its purpose is two-fold<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>To obtain consent for coaching.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>In order to eliminate the &#8220;cross-buttoning,&#8221; the coach explains to the client what can and cannot be done in coaching, and what the client is expected to work on as a client.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As the saying goes, &#8220;the first time is the key,&#8221; and if this agreement is not clear at the beginning of the session, then a &#8220;cross-button mismatch&#8221; can occur. People tend to conveniently interpret the future they have not yet experienced. Expectations that are out of touch with reality can cause a misalignment between the coach and the client, and the coaching process can become dysfunctional.<br>Coaching begins when both parties agree that the dialogue that is about to begin is coaching.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"2\">\n<li>Establish trust.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Coaching will not work unless a relationship of trust is formed with the other person. It is important to have a relationship where you can talk about anything. To this end, the coach tries to make the client feel trust, security, and a sense of freedom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When people are able to let down their guard against the other person, they are able to speak honestly. When the client feels comfortable with the coach, the client is more likely to speak honestly, and the coach can elicit more challenges and insights from the client.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The client&#8217;s sense of security that they will be accepted even if they fail lowers the hurdle to taking action, and the action itself becomes an exciting and enjoyable experience that will lead to greater results.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The start of the &#8220;basic 10 steps&#8221; of the shared coaching flow is the setup.
